Micro-learning: the future of e-learning?
Today, you can find short, informational videos online anytime, anyplace. Advances in video technology allow us to develop entertaining and attractive ways to deliver users information. But will watching a 1- to 3-minute video provide sufficient training and enable the acquisition of skills for improving individuals’ performance.
Recent research carried out by Deloitte shows that employees only have one percent of their time during the work week to focus on education and development. As a result of the increasing demand for fast, immediately-available training, micro-learning has become a clear trend in professional education.
“In today’s digital, online world, people expect instant, easy access to short video content at the moment they need it,” says Tim Hildreth, Vice President of Product Management at Skillsoft. He also claims that the video itself, without support tools for training in retention and usage of acquired skills, is not enough.
Skillsoft has created an extensive library of 3- to 5-minute video courses that provide learners easy access to necessary resources.
